Founded by Rowland Hussey Macy in 1928, Macy’s has a store having dry goods, situated in the downtown of Haverhill, Massachusetts in the year 1851, which primarily catered to the whaling community in the region. Later on, Macy shifted to the New York City, and opened a store called “R. H. Macy & Co.” on the 6th Avenue, 14th Street, which was later shifted to the Broadway and the 18th Street, on the Ladies’ Mile, which was the shopping centre of the 19th century, a place where it remained for about four decades.
With time, Macy began exploiting the benefits of advertisement by the medium of television, and in 1006-07, he opted for product placement as well, where he used the branding spots that were on the star logo of Macy’s. In fact, on the 11th of February, 2007, Macy’s placement in the fictitious city of Fairview was shown in the popular series Desperate Housewives, which is one of the few cases of product placement in a successful series.
